Ballet
Ballet is the foundation of all dance forms. Body placement, flexibility, balance, alignment, strength and technique are achieved through barre and center floor work. Ballet Technique classes are the foundation for training BSD dancers and focus on developing a solid ballet technique with emphasis on understanding correct body placement, proper use of turn out, coordination of the upper body (epaulement), and use of arms (port de bras).
Pointe
Daners interested in pointe must first take a Ballet Technique class. A dancer typically will be accepted into a pointe class after 1 or 2 years of a ballet technique class. Pointe classes are for dancers who have a great desire to learn more ballet with the added challenge of being on pointe.
TAP
Tap helps children with their timing and rhythm. Plus, every child loves to put on their tap shoes! Tap is taught to the level of the class and students will explore all the possibilities that their "instruments" have! As students advance in this skill their footwork will become more challenging and more intricate.
Jazz
In our Jazz classes, students will learn ballet based technique such as turns, leaps, jumps. Students will get to experience traditional jazz (Broadway, Fosse, Giordano), Contemporary style jazz as well as modern day jazz styles. This class is energetic and fun!
Creative Movement
In this class, children will learn basic motor skills such as hopping, skipping and balancing as well as basic ballet movements. This class brings out the “dancer” and lets children explore their creativity. Parent involvement is not mandatory but some dancers do require parent help in order for the class to run smoothly. However, our goal is for your child to take this class independently.
Clogging
Clogging is a type of folk dance with roots in traditional European dancing, early African-American dance and traditional Cherokee dance. Clogging emphasizes the downbeat of the music by enthusiastic footwork.
Hip Hop
Hip hop dancing is an ideal way to express one’s creativity. It features self impressions and the dances come from the soul. The dancing represents body movements that go with the beat and rhythm of hip hop music!
Pom/Cheer Dance
Cheer Dance is a quick moving, high energy class. Students learn sharp movements often used in cheerleading and also work on flexibility, leaps, turns and stunts. This is an excellent class for aspiring cheerleaders or for the dancer who just loves to move fast and work in unison with a group.
Acro
Acro is a blend of acrobatics and gymnastics. Acro is great for improving a dancers strength, flexibility, endurance and agility. Students will learn many tricks, including tumbling skills, contortion, balances and sports acrobatic partner skills.
Lyrical
Our lyrical classes fuse the technique and style of both ballet and jazz. Students work on expressing emotion while telling a story through the use of the lyrics and music. This is a great style for any dancer with training in ballet or jazz who want to expand their knowledge in different styles.
Musical Theatre
Musical Theatre incorporates singing, acting, and dancing all in one class. This makes for a fun filled and high energy performing arts lesson.
Modern
Modern dance is a dance style that rejects many of the strict rules of classical ballet, focusing instead on the expression of inner feelings.
Contemporary
Contemporary is a style that incorporates movements from many techniques to express inward emotions and abstract ideas. Contemporary is based on what is current, meaning that it is constantly changing and growing as a style
